Survival International
Founded in 1969, Survival is the only international organization supporting tribal peoples worldwide. It helps them defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures. Survival works closely with hundreds of indigenous organisations and communities in many countries, offering tribal people themselves a platform to address the world. It focuses on tribal peoples who have the most to lose, usually those most recently in contact with the outside world, and it believes that public opinion is the most effective force for change. In order to maintain its integrity and independence, Survival does not accept money from any national government. Its campaigns are not only directed at governments, but at companies, banks, guerrilla armies, narrow minded conservationists or anyone else who violates tribal peoples’ rights, making use of public opinion and public action to secure their future.
